住の江の 岸に寄る波 よるさへや
夢の通ひ路 人目よくらむ

住の江の岸に寄せる波のように、夜見る夢の中でさえ、あなたは人目を避けて会ってくれないのでしょうか。

Lo! the gathered waves
On the shore of Sumi's bay!
E'en in gathered night,
When in dreams I go to thee,
I must shun the eyes of men.
